NSS -DBIT

Don Bosco Institute of Technology (DBIT) is an Engineering college located at Kurla. Our college is offering Bachelor Degree courses in Computer, Information Technology, Mechanical, and Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering.  National Service Scheme (NSS) has been a part of DBIT from the last nine years (Since year 2005). More than hundred and fifty NSS volunteers are involved in social activities in areas like Ghatkoper, Kurla and rural part of Palghar and Raigad District.

Motto

The Motto of NSS "Not Me But You", reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. NSS helps the students develop appreciation to other person's point of view and also show consideration to '/other living beings. The philosophy of the NSS is well doctrined in this motto, which underlines/on the belief that the welfare .of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society on the whole and therefore, the NSS volunteers shall strive for the well-being of the society.

Symbol

The symbol for the NSS has been based on the giant Rath Wheel of the world famous Konark Sun Temple (The Black Pagoda) situated in Orissa, India. The wheel portrays the cycle of creation, preservation and release and signifies the movement in life across time and space, The symbol thus stands for continuity as well as change and implies the continuous striving of NSS for social change.

Badge

The NSS Symbol is embossed on the badge. The eight bars in the wheel represent the 24 hours of a day. The red colour indicates that the volunteer is full of young blood that is lively, active, energetic and full of high spirit. The navy blue colour indicates the cosmos of which the NSS is tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind.

Objectives of NSS

    1. Understand the community in which they work
    2. Understand themselves in relation to their community
    3. Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving
    4. Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
    5. Utilise their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems
    6. Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities
    7. Gain skills in mobilising community participation
    8. Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes
    9. Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and
    10. Practise national integration and social harmony

EDUCATIONAL

Distance and online education for slum and rural children

NSS Volunteers shall create mass awareness among the parents and children to facilitate enrolment of children at elementary education level and to prevent school drops out in rural and urban areas. They shall also design online application, software or open source learning material for the school children from urban and rural areas.

NSS volunteers will also motivate youth especially those are school dropouts to undergo vocational courses under various schemes available.

HEALTH

Healthy Campus- Health for better future

NSS volunteers will create awareness of Virus Diseases(like Covid-19 and Pandemic situation), Action on human behavioural Changes(Protocol of Health agencies for prevention of a Diseases & no Spitting), etc. After Lockdown Volunteers participate in Disinfection and cleaning of Institution and Public Places. They will also spread awareness through social media and give health tips to increase the immunity level of individuals. The NSS Volunteers shall spread awareness of sound health practices and nutritional aspects.

Yoga and other traditional health care system will be made popularize & Yoga will be made a mandatory components to Youth. NSS volunteers will organise online Yoga practice session for other students for the fitness of physical and mental health.

EMPLOYMENT FOR BETTER LIVELIHOOD

Finding job opportunities for needy youth

During the lockdown period many of the workers lost their jobs. Also at the same time in many companies jobs are available for skilled and unskilled workers. The team of NSS volunteers will find out what kind of jobs are available for the youth from the company’s website or from the HR department.

Task for the volunteers

  • Visit to company’s website
  • Finding the available position according to the job profile
  • Location wise
  • Identify the needy youth from the various institute/NGO/communities
  • Publish the information and linkages between companies and needy youth

  • Connecting NSS Mumbai University NSS cell online- Designing and maintaining registration and enrollment forms, E Diary for NSS MU
  • New design of NSS MU website
  • Designing E journal for the St. Xavier's college SIP department
  • Designing business Application for the new entrepreneurs
