Students of DBIT get to do a lot more…
“Time well spent is time gained”. This motto, a few teachers (read Mrs. Kirti More and Mr. Girish), some students (read Swayam, Sydon, Meryl, Clavin, Kapil, Yogesh, Amit, Joby and Catherine), some electronic components and a lot of enthusiasm helped to launch mini projects in our vacation after Semester II.
Mini – Projects??!! This was the name given to the mission of building some simple and some not so simple electronic circuits that have practical applications in our day – to – day practicals and at home. In the beginning, we were introduced to the basics of electronic devices and their usage and we were on the project for three weeks (13 June to 30 June 2005).
The various projects were:
-
Stabilized Power Supply with Short Circuit Indication:
Stabilized power supply circuit is used to stabilize the input alternating current (AC) power, so as to provide a steady input of voltage for various circuits. With the help of various components, stabilized voltages of various values can be provided. It is used in electronic circuits where unstabilized supply can cause damage. It is widely used in computers and various electronic applications.
It is an experimental amplifier used to demonstrate application in strain gauge, water level controller etc.
It is used as monostable / astable multivibrator, waveform generator, frequency divider, voltage control oscillator, led temperature indicator, appliance timer etc.
It is a digital testing instrument. It is used to detect polarity, continuity, logic state and activity of multivibrator. This circuit is very helpful in testing logic state of digital ICs.
This lamp is built for day – to – day use as a night lamp, mandir lamp or even in labs where bright lights cannot be used. The importance of using LED lamp instead of an incandescent lamp is that it can stand voltage fluctuations and it lasts for 11 years of continuous use!!
All in all, it was a fun-filled and informative experience. It reinforces the fact that DBIT gives students a chance to learn something….. more. Students of DBIT get to do a lot more…
